To celebrate Women's History Month in March, we're highlighting women who are making a powerful impact in their community. In this Dominate Your Day podcast, I had the pleasure of interviewing Robyn Brown, founder of Bold Idea, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to computer science education for under-resourced students in Dallas.

Bold Idea offers after-school coding clubs for students in grades 3 through 12. Students are paired with volunteer mentors—tech professionals who guide them through hands-on projects like creating games, websites, or animations. Students not only learn technical skills but also gain valuable role models who inspire them to see a future in technology.

Robyn’s journey into computer science education is deeply personal. She explains how, as a young person, she was passionate about technology but lacked the support and guidance to pursue it professionally. This gap motivated her to create a space where students today can receive the mentorship she didn’t have.

What started as a small group of mentors teaching web development eventually blossomed into a full-fledged nonprofit. Robyn’s story is a testament to the power of mentorship, and how providing young students with the right resources can unlock opportunities they might not have otherwise had.

With plans to expand Bold Idea's work to include more support for students through high school and even into college, Robyn’s work is setting the stage for a new generation of tech leaders.
